So, I finally decided that I should have a proper blog and I should properly update it with frequent posts.  Over the past few days, I’ve been trying to figure out how to set up a self-hosted Wordpress blog.  Fortunately, my subscription to Lynda.com had some training on blogging and a few google searches found some helpful sites.

I’ve also been seeking out snazzy looking Wordpress themes. After several attempts I think I’ll stick with this design, Evidens (Dark) Theme by Design Disease. Of course, if another theme catches my eye, that could change.

Some of the tweaks/issues I’ve been having with this theme:

• Flickr Photostream ( plugin: adv Flickr RSS) isn’t loading photos from my account and I can’t figure out why that is.
• I’d like to have the “Flickr Photostream” and “Latest Tweets” (plugin: Twitter Tools) have the same link properties as the rest of the site ( ie, hover orange, and blue visited)
• Latest Tweets is only showing one tweet at a time, I’d like to increase that to 5 or so.
• Comments box text is almost the same colour as the background making it difficult to see the text.

I’m definitely thankful for free themes and of  the time it takes to make them but I’m getting frustrated with not being able to tweak it  exactly the way I would like.  That is my current limitation, not the designers, but I think this may finally motivate me to gain a better understanding of how CSS and PHP work.

If the blog is spotty or things don’t look quite right, that’s probably me messing around where I shouldn’t be.
